The fuss with judging

The Pilgrim’s Pensieve #23

I began to write on one of those popular slogans that really bothers me, the whole “don’t judge” mantra. First of all, I wanted to tackle how grossly unbiblical it is, address some of the reasons why it is popular, and finally say what we lose out on when we get rid of judgment. What I thought will be a quick article to write up, as many of my posts turn out to be, became more complicated and challenging than I had anticipated. I had to wrestle with the larger issue of justice of which judgment is a crucial subset. I was hitting so many road blocks as I tried to say what I wanted through different approaches. Then it finally hit me. Though I recognized there needed to be conversation on the oft neglected virtue and power of justice, my own views on it had not matured enough to write incisively and coherently about it. My Love/Hate Relationship with Bible Study

The Pilgrim’s Pensieve #22

One of the things I love to do is study to study the Bible but one of the things I really dread is going to church Bible study. A good example of this love/hate relationship I have with Bible study is something that happened two weeks ago. Continue reading “My Love/Hate Relationship with Bible Study”

Beautiful Ambiguity

The Pilgrim’s Penseive #21

I haven’t added a new thought to the Pilgrim’s Pensieve in a while. Maybe reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child subliminally got me thinking about this series again. (Muggles will not understand the reference.) Taking stock of things, I have had a pretty crazy 2016 so far. Just a few days ago I realised my life was complicated. It was never a word that I would have used to describe myself but I find it to be true. Not complicated enough for a riveting book series like Harry Potter but there is a reasonable amount of unreasonableness in my life to say it is not simple. The pieces don’t fit neatly together. False Messiahs

The Pilgrim’s Pensieve #20

In both my country Ghana and the United States we are in an election year. Our elections happen just a couple of weeks. When it comes to international news coverage what happens in the US gets far more coverage. This is understandable because the US is the most powerful country in the world. This year however interest in the American elections has been greater than usual due to the rather unusual nature of this year’s political race. Continue reading “False Messiahs”

A Real Writer

The Pilgrim’s Pensieve #19

It’s been a while since I last shared my thoughts in the Pilgrim’s Pensieve. In fact I hadn’t been blogging at all for about three weeks. The reason why: life. I named this section of my blog the way I did, as many Harry Potter fans would suspect, because it is a place (which we all need by the way) to unburden myself of the cares of this world. Here I unwind and write about whatever has captured my attention in the previous week or simply anything that catches my fancy and is not strictly the subject of this blog.
