The video below looks at the problem with American Christian music.
America is the great cultural exporter to the world and here in Ghana its Christian music is very popular. Black gospel music and contemporary Christian music from America are especially popular among young educated people. I used to be one of those people obsessed with CCM and I knew many others like me. After a while I got really dissatisfied with it and I feel the video puts its finger on some of the reasons why I feel that way about it. Even though American music is really popular here, our own Ghanaian Christian music is the most popular. There are obviously huge differences between American and Ghanaian Christian music but I feel many of the critiques in the video also apply to the local scene. Even if you do not find the video relevant to our setting it should at least give you some food for thought on the state of Christian music and Christian art in general, no matter which part of the world you are from.
