The Pentecostal/Charismatic Movement is a large, quickly growing and a very theologically diverse branch of the Christian family. One of the many prominent doctrinal streams within it is the Word of Faith Movement. It is also very controversial with many ardent defenders and detractors. One of the main accusations is that it is a heresy from 19th century precursors to the New Age movement. In this article for Pneuma Review historian Paul King introduces us to the origins of the Faith Movement and examines these claims historically. He concludes that though there are some similarities it is quite unlike New Thought metaphysics and has more in common with traditional orthodox teachings.
